Melanie began her fitness journey in 2004 when at age 26 she was in the WORST shape of her life. She had chronic back and neck pain, migraines and severe panic attacks. With her two active boys age 4 and 5, she felt powerless.
Melanie was struggling to make ends-meet when she decided to invest in her health for the first time. Melanie joined a gym and got personal training. In one year she lost 100lbs. She cured her back and neck pain. She cured her migraines and reduced her panic attacks from almost daily to a rare occurrence! The confidence she gained from her new-found fitness inspired her to test her limits! Melanie has competed in boxing, running, powerlifting and bodybuilding.
Melanie decided that EVERYONE needed access to the powerful magic of fitness. The energy she gained from fitness allowed Melanie to ditch her minimum-wage struggle. She started a new career in personal training. After working at a variety of gyms, Melanie found out the sad truth about the fitness industry. Most gyms were hostile to to beginners, women and her LGBT+ clients. Melanie and her husband founded their own gym space in 2011. to create a welcoming space! That space grew into The Nerd Gym downtown.
